Life update 🚍 (1 minute read)
While looking for a meaningful area to focus my studies on, @emiledagbeko, Fractional CTO at Z&S Transport and a long-term friend, suggested exploring "Operational practices and technological solutions that most effectively support scheduling, disruption management, and coordination in bus services." This turned out to be a great area of focus.

I have been lucky enough to gain insights from some top industry practitioners in the UK who have helped my research go from the exploratory stage, to the deep analysis stage I currently find myself in.

Thanks to the Bristol students who have shared their research insights with me, and all the other Ops. Managers & MDs who have also given me their time.

‼️Here's where things get crazy:

I could not ignore the blatantly obvious: operators still run back-office ops on spreadsheets, and disconnected systems. Most people reading this are not in the bus ops industry so I will explain: this leads to inefficiencies, safety risks and fragmented workflows.

When I later mentioned this to Emile, he told me he was already building a real solution to this exact problem. I wasn't surprised, knowing the builder and problem solver that he is. He showed me that had already replaced 80% of Excel workflows at Z&S, along with reducing more than half of their back-office workload.

I have since then joined forces with him on the @Okomfo_io project, and I'm now more excited than ever, not just to see where this takes my studies, but by the idea of actually solving something in this essential industry.
