A very sad day but it feels right to have a permanent reminder of Chris on the wall. Truth be told there are reminders of her everywhere I look in the special collections.
Yesterday we gathered to remember our dear friend and colleague Chris Fowler, and to name the Artists’ Books Collection in her honour. Chris’ dedication to her work as Academic Liaison Librarian will be known to many across the University and beyond.
@walchster Write your references down is always my first (& second) tip for students. And make friends with the archivist - bring us cake (although not in the reading room!), compliment our knitwear, we’re often as useful as the catalogue in identifying relevant material for your research!

Inspired by the ‘Vanilla: anything but boring’ talk @britishlibrary yesterday we’ve found this vanilla illustration from ‘History of the Vegetable Kingdom’, 1868. William Rhind describes the pod as having an odour ‘said to induce a kind of temporary intoxication’. Powerful stuff!
