@TortsIllustrtd@calebnoble08 But Matz is a good comp IMO.
And my opinion on May is that he’s a reliever asked to start games and as long as that’s his role he’ll disappoint.
But he would be a terrific reliever.
@MattPauleyOnAir The Cardinals don’t have 5 pitchers, let alone six, who should be going thru the lineup more than twice.
We can pound our fists on the table all we want about the way things should be, but a manager has to match strategy to the players available.
@thomasgauvain@STLSprtsCntrl That’s right. And the primary factor for promoting Baez to MLB is what’s best for Baez. Secondary factor is what’s best for the organization’s future. When he hits MLB, the clock on arbitration and free agency starts ticking.
@TortsIllustrtd@thomasgauvain@CardsWRLD I don’t know, either, but the cost of finding out isn’t high.
Soriano has been pitching with the mindset of a reliever the last couple years. I’d like to see what he’d do in a starter’s role. Might not work, but if it does the reward could be high.
@thomasgauvain@TortsIllustrtd@CardsWRLD Should be case by case, depending on what’s offered.
But I wouldn’t trade Soriano until I gave him a chance to start. He has enough pitches that he might make it work.
One time thru the order every third game would get him about 108 innings on a per season basis. That’s worth something and there’s nothing unmanly about settling for that.
Kyle Leahy number of times through the batting order:
1st time thru:
99 PAs .191/.273/.270/.542
24.2 K%
2nd time:
98 PAs .294/.375/.424/.799
19.4 K%
3rd time:
53 PAs .458/.509/.833/1.343
5.7 K%
Hes been decent as a starter. But HAVE to have a short leash with him currently
Hunter Dobbins’ next appearance will be in the big leagues as a starter, Marmol said this morning. They’ll slot him after the off day and run a six-man rotation for at least one turn.
I applaud Oli for piggybacking Leahy and Dobbins. 32 starts at 4 IP/start is 128 IP, which is fine for a full season for each. Removes one reliever from the bullpen, but also means about 20% of games won’t require a bullpen. That’s a smart exchange.
@3630no6@OnlyCardsFans I’m not ok with Herrera DH’ing full time. He needs to have another position he can play or the Cards should listen to offers. Really, they should just listen to offers now.
@Nomadhidinghere@jonbecker_ There’s no question that MLB has a Dodgers problem with inequality. It’s less certain that the Dodgers’ situation can be generalized to all other deep pockets teams.
@OnlyCardsFans Even if the Cards aren’t in contention, I’d still keep giving him C starts to see if either the arm improves or he finds other ways to hold runners close.
@OnlyCardsFans Likewise, if the Cards are ahead when Herrera is catching, then moving him to another position and substituting with Crooks or Pages may be attractive.
Buy my guess is we’re really only talking 1B for Herrera.
@OnlyCardsFans Herrera will be more useful as a backup catcher if he is playing another position due to game rules re:DH. If the Cards are behind enough in a game that the other team won’t try to steal much, then it makes sense to slide him in as C.
