The idea that Argentina are declining because they struggled against Egypt misses the bigger picture.

Instead of assuming Argentina have regressed, maybe it’s time to admit those African teams are simply much better than many people expected.

Too many fans still judge African football by FIFA rankings and history rather than what happens on the pitch. Cape Verde and Egypt were tactically disciplined, intense, and deserved credit for making life difficult for Argentina.

It’s also impossible to say France, England, or Spain would’ve had an easier time against those same teams. Argentina’s tough matches may actually benefit them, exposing weaknesses they can fix before knockout rounds become even more unforgiving.

Close scorelines don’t automatically prove Argentina are getting worse. They can also show that the gap between traditional football powers and top African teams is smaller than many fans are willing to admit.

I Don’t Blame Them. Messi Is Chaos. They’re Just Looking for Answers.

I don’t blame them. It’s incredibly hard to understand.

The guy is doing something no one has ever done before. He’s 39 years old and already has 8 goals in this World Cup. More than the young stars everyone thought would be stealing the spotlight. Yet they still can’t escape Messi’s shadow.

He stays out of politics and religion. He never makes controversial comments. He’s friends with Muslims, Jews, Christians, Catholics. He embraces everyone. He never turns down a photo.

He never speaks badly about anyone. Everyone who knows him has nothing but good things to say. Every teammate loves him. Even his fiercest rivals have ended up bowing to him.

He’s humble. Grounded. A family man. He goes to watch his kids play soccer and sits on the grass with the other parents. You’ve never seen him showing off the world’s most expensive sports car or the biggest yacht. You’ve never heard him talk about his individual achievements. It’s always about the team.

He accepted his eighth Ballon d’Or with the same shy smile he had when he won his first. They put a ceremonial robe on him before lifting the World Cup trophy, and he wore it. Why would he care? All he wanted was to celebrate with his teammates.

So I don’t blame them. Because I know it’s hard to understand someone like that.

He shouldn’t be like this. He shouldn’t be 39 years old and still be the defining player of a World Cup. He shouldn’t break down in tears after his team comes back to win a match when he’s already won everything there is to win.

World Cup games could have helped Barca do business and made other moves look better

Now that Cancelo deal is done, I look at the 10 million and think the price is fair.

I like how Gordon plays but thought that 80 million was an overpay and still do, but if Barca would have wanted to get him after some of the last England games AND considering how much Elliot Anderson went for and the PL tax, Gordon would be 100 million today if he was on the market.

Alvarez has not looked like a 150 million player at the world cup. He is still the striker that Flick wants and he fits what Barca want to do. After reports of Atletico softening on the Alvarez deal, I think that is directly linked to Alvarez losing transfer value during this tournament.

I honestly believe that if Alvarez was in the top 4 goal scorers with 6+, that he would be impossible to buy. Right now Barca can realistically get a deal done at a good price.

Spain has shown the fans what Cubarsi looks like with stability around him. Laporte is not a god level defender that costs 80 million. Barcelona should carefully look at how Spain structures with Cubarsi and make moves that make the Barca defense look more like this.

I feel like Kounde and Cancelo back and fit help, Balde has rested all summer and a marginal defender that is not overpriced is what they will go for. SO I think the World Cup has softened the perceived emergency in filling the defense in with a few top overpriced players.

Last one is that I think from observation, Barca also needs to take a hard look at finding who on their team could play the defensive linchpin in midfield, I don't think they need a midfield purchase, but is so much better for example for Spain having Rodri back there, I just don't know who Barca could get to do those things. Gavi, Bernal and de Jong are all different from that type.
