@CMonteiro_USP Powerful vested interests have far too much influence over US, EU, and UK food policy. They want to keep the status quo- that enables Big Food to keep making huge profits on selling UPFs. Only reason to not restrict UPFs is Big Food profits controlling USDA
A first-of-its-kind lawsuit against 11 UPF industries alleging they engineer their UPF products to be addictive with details on the actions taken to target children including internal memos, meetings & the research conducted to create addictive substances.

Brilliant explanation by Mark Lawrence on why limiting UPF intake should be an integral part of dietary guidelines to promote both public health and planetary sustainability.
@MarkLawrence_Oz@CMonteiro_USP@PhilBakerNZ@kesievert@marionnestle@ChristinaPolla8 @ppmachado_ @BenjaminM_Wood @StuartGillesp16 I struggle with ‘Plates’. They don’t look like meals & how foods are prepared & eaten by families/people( and in different cultures). Are they for policy makers as a guide for optimal food systems for human and planetary health? Good that this advises few UPFs. For debate!
Council committees to be bypassed in bid to build more homes. Shameful- councils should be funded to build more social housing, not making it easier for ripoff builders to build expensive poor quality housing for profit https://t.co/ePZhVSfEbp
One of the great 'burning injustices':
New figures published today show babies born in areas with the highest child poverty rates can expect to live 5 years fewer than those born in the areas with the lowest rates of child poverty.
Thought-provoking symposium to open our @nutsocaus 2024 Annual Scientific Meeting discussing levers for healthy & equitable food systems, including how UPF systems are structured for profitability, rise of multi-stakeholderism & the political power of the UPF industry #NSA2024
Labour policies making things considerably worse for the poorest! Labour now the party for the well off. Who is standing up for the poor and oppressed in the country and world? Who is standing for truth and justice for Palestinian people?
The benefits of Keir Starmer's plan for change must be felt by the worst off 📢
New research shows average disposable incomes for the bottom 40% will be £440 lower by 2029 than this year.
Lowest-income households will be hit hardest. 1/6
@MohammedAlo You missed your basic epidemiology& public health course in medical school. Infant, maternal and early child mortality were high, once got to five & not living & working in poverty good chance of living to 70+. Is your work funded by Big Food?
Excellent. What we really need is a joined up birth to death health and care system run by Govt, not private sector. Separating health and care into NHS and local govt respectively doesn't work, blocks up the acute system and has too many gaps in the underfunded care system.
My direct, heartfelt appeal in today’s @guardian to @wesstreeting & @Keir_Starmer in the light of yesterday's vote on AD.
If you sincerely care about dying people, surely you will now publicly & urgently commit to proper funding for our threadbare palliative care?

@SolHughesWriter And worse, she declared this issue when she was appointed to cabinet and he thought it was ok then. So obviously it is now abut her mild criticism of P and O and pro big business growth strategy
@SolHughesWriter You know the answer! Any excuse to get rid of left ash leaning person and for what she rightly said about P & O and Starmer's big business mates! Compare this to how he backs right wing MPs who have done far worse. Hypocrite and a typical weak bully
@LabourSatvir You highlight a key issue, the postcode lottery of palliative care. All people should have access to quality care throughout their lives. The govt must invest more in NHS run ( keep private sector out of it) quality care for all
