While the number in the original clip is inaccurately explained (tho corrected later on), the principle & sentiment remains accurate.

It’s worth noting that over 90% of those arrests did not result in a conviction.

Imagine being taken from your home/work/kids - in handcuffs - put in a marked police van in front of colleagues/friends/family… Swabbed, searched, photographed, added to a database and detained in a cell. The door slams shut. You’re left for hours; your every move watched, including your toileting. Then, you’re summoned to a room in the dead of night - filmed, interviewed, questioned, chastised, cajoled. The whole time terrified - wondering what on earth you have done wrong.

Only to be told, it’s ok. You can go now….Back to your street where the curtains will twitch. Back to your office where your colleagues will gossip. Back to the school gates where your kids will be teased.

And life will never be the same again…

You’re right @DeborahMeaden this is a divided country. I would propose that it may perhaps be less so, if those in power stopped treating those it disagrees with, or those who express a dissenting opinion, in the way I mention above.

I’d argue focusing on that issue, rather than someone’s ability to numerically distinguish between the semantics of arrest v’s sentence - is the bigger issue at play…
