2c.
- instead of working on 3s: no matter how good of a 3 pt shooter you are, if you shoot them once every quarter, you will never shoot enough to get into a decent rhythm
- I tend not to buy into 3pt shooting in an open gym - open, easy to get into a rhythm
Thoughts on Sengun's development:
1a. Where he is currently:
- Can CONSISTENTLY dominate against solid starting centers (eg. Zubac, Capela, etc)
- Struggles against (a) ALL-STAR caliber centers like AD, Embid AND
2b.
- therefore I feel that instead of working on 3s, Sengun should polish his paint touch, midrange shooting, and free throw shooting, things that he can get into a rhythm in a real match
Just not enough good things to say about Jared McCain… I knew he’d be good, but him being this good this fast is unreal. Tonight he had:
34 PTS
10 AST
2 STL
6 3PT
He joins Jason Kidd & Steph Curry as the only rookies in NBA history to reach these numbers. Rookie of the Year.
“[Bronny’s] game is passive… It’s this awkward thing when he is supposed to shoot it he passes, when he is supposed to pass he shoots.”
Gilbert Arenas examines why Bronny James’ game isn’t working in the NBA.
imagine if jabari could at least do this 🥲 but ngl some part of the issue could be attributed to the offensive scheme. more plays should be run for him. how can u catch a rhythm shooting 1 shot every 5 mins?
- possible solutions:
1. Catch at mid-post, face up and shoot over them (u still have a height advantage)
2. Mix up ur attacks (some post-up hook shots, some face up “flamingos” etc
Reactions to rockets-hornets:
sengun:
- clearly had problems posting grant williams up. while it may not look like it, players like grant williams (shorter, bulkier players eg. draymond, harden) can be difficult to move in the post
- if u spend so much time trying to move them, u burn the shot clock, the defence is more willing to double, even if u make the right play to kick out, ur shooter essentially has to shoot under time pressure (and that’s before considering if another defender rotates)
reactions to rockets-hornets:
- Reed Sheppard: same thing as I saw from preseason. Reed has a tendency to not maximise the utility of a screen
- when u get a screen, in the simplest form, the defender either goes over or goes under
