Odisha Shocked by Brutal Murder of Pregnant Woman In Hinjili, Says Naveen Patnaik

Leader of Opposition @Naveen_Odisha on Wednesday wrote to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressing "deep anguish" over the brutal murder of a pregnant woman at Kharida village under Hinjili constituency in Ganjam district.

In his letter, Naveen Patnaik described the incident as 'heinous" and said the visuals of the victim’s three-year-old daughter crying beside her mother's body had "shocked the conscience of Odisha".

According to reports cited in the letter, the pregnant woman was murdered in front of her child by the brother of her partner while she was staging a dharna outside her partner's house seeking justice. She was reportedly holding her daughter when she was attacked.

Naveen Patnaik urged the Chief Minister, who also holds the Home portfolio, to direct police to immediately arrest all accused involved in the crime. He also sought immediate state support, compensation and rehabilitation for the three-year-old girl who witnessed the killing.

The BJD president further demanded an inquiry into why preventive action was not taken despite the victim allegedly sitting on dharna seeking justice before the incident occurred.

Seeking the Chief Minister's "personal intervention", Naveen Patnaik said the perpetrators must be punished as per law and steps should be taken to ensure such incidents are not repeated in the state. #Odisha

Pregnant Woman In Hinjili Threatened Before Media, Then Murdered: BJD Leader Ranjita Sahoo

A shocking incident in Hinjili has sparked outrage after a pregnant woman was threatened with death in front of mediapersons and later brutally murdered, even as police reportedly failed to intervene.

Condemning the incident, BJD General Secretary (Women’s Affairs) Ranjita Sahoo alleged that the assailant openly warned of killing the woman before the media and subsequently carried out the attack while police didn't intervene.

Calling the episode a complete breakdown of law and order, she questioned how such a brutal crime could unfold publicly. The incident has intensified concerns over women's safety and policing in the region.
