The first core value of our athletic program is COMPETE. This refers to competing against our best in every moment… Competitive Greatness.
Every summer we take 1 day per we do a competition workout, and really focus on competing with a positive attitude, being extremely tough and absolutely selfless.
Today we had my favorite competition of all… MILES.
We had an amazing time honoring Miles Henderson. Miles was a young man that grew up in Canadian, chose to use his life for others, and then on November 6, 2006 gave his life to protect the freedoms that you and I enjoy today.
Miles is such a great example that no matter our talent level we can choose to have an amazing impact on the people we get to do life with.
Several years ago we started our annual tradition of DOING THE MILES WORKOUT. To do this workout you have to have a partner, and you have to have a rope that you hang onto and keep with you the entire workout, because just like Miles, we want to be about using our talents for each other.
Then you spend the next 30 minutes to an hour with your partner working together, visiting, and connecting.
This is always such a great part of the week where we wrap up the first half of our summer strength and conditioning program. Time goes fast. We do not get any redos. Let’s keep working hard to make the most of every rep every day.
I absolutely love coaching in Canadian, because of the people I get to work with and for. And because of the great ancestors we have in our community and our program that laid a phenomenal foundation for us to stand on.
Let’s be diligent and intent about using our time to honor those that came before us, and to do it in such a way that those that come after us will want to honor us.
Let’s be MORE TOGETHER.

Easily one of the coolest things I’ve seen on a footbal Friday night.
Canadian High football players before taking the field for 2nd half shake the hands of Mesa View Senior Living residents who sit on the track for games.
Pure joy on those faces.

Super Sky Point to Ryne Sandberg, my favorite second baseman of all time. I will never forget the countless hours tuned into WGN with Harry Caray and Steve Stone during those beautiful childhood summers that lasted forever. Before we knew how fast time actually flies and that our heroes don’t live forever. He could hit, he could field, and he did it all with class. Ernie Banks may be Mr. Cub but Ryno capably took that mantle for my generation. Somewhere in my heart it’ll always be 1984, Harry will always be three sheets to the wind while looking for blondes in the bleachers between pitches, and Ryne Sandberg will always get the clutch hit or make the great defensive play to save the day. That’s how I remember it because that’s how it was. Nobody ever wore Cubbie blue better. St. Peter, don’t throw this man fastballs. But I’m sure Bruce Sutter already told you that. #RIP
Today we had my favorite workout we do every summer… Miles.
In honor of Miles Henderson and the way he used his time on this earth.
Miles was the embodiment of a Fighting Wildcat. He was honest, true, committed, and faithful with an infectious smile and an unflagging loyalty…
I tell our kids often, and I wholeheartedly believe, the whole point of our existence is each other, and the impact we choose to have… and Miles lived that.
@drbone4tx@CanyonISD Both of my daughters attended Tx public schools. They will both attend any university they choose on full ride academic scholarships. Tell me more Mary about how their local public schools failed them.
This is how I REALLY know we don't have teacher's unions in Texas because 99% of the Teachers I know -- Rural Texas Conservatives in particular -- would NOT be a member of a union! #txed#txlege 😀
