Excellent news that #LA is joining #IN in restricting health plans from reducing, suspending and/or terminating a hospital facility's contract if physicians at the hospital are out of network w/ that health plan.
Recall that @AnthemBCBS or whatever they are called this week announced in Q4 '25 that they would be penalizing hospital facility reimbursements -10% if the hospital had physicians who were out of network w/ Anthem.
For multiple state and federal law reasons, such a policy is illegal on its face & @CMADocs are suing Anthem to have the policy declared illegal--I'll take the over that they are successful.
Congrats to @ASALifeline and the physician advocacy community for yet another win.
“When you really dive deep,” he said, these improvements don’t seem to touch the services and procedures, such as CT scans, that get caught up in prior authorization so frequently. “When we started looking into it,” he said, “it was almost a PR stunt.”

Looks like some state regulators are finally taking a harder stance when it comes to excessive denials by health insurers. Hope to see others take note!

I'm skeptical. The insurers' national trade association has announced commitments and initiatives before on improving prior authorization (second tweet is an example from '22). States need to enact meaningful guardrails, as past promises from the industry have not been fulfilled.
