Trump says he will get rid of the Department of Education if he is elected president again.

He states:

“We’ll have a tiny group to make sure everyone is teaching English, math, etc. Department of Education goes.”

Why do Republicans want to defund education? Are they afraid of an educated populace? The department of education has accomplished so much in the last 45 years.
