Overall STBBI knowledge amongst SCS clients was high & they found increased testing was associated with frequent SCS use & primary care engagement. However, systematic-level stigma still remains, suggesting increased access and inclusive care is still necessary. #CAHR2026
In our final session of #CAHR2026, Nandini Krishnan and Douglas Vickers presented findings from #H2HCentre looking at barriers to STBBI testing among clients of the Supervised Consumption Site (SCS) to identify opportunities to enhance client-centered approaches.
Dr. David Moore closed out the program, looking at unsuppressed HIV viral load among GBM from the Engage Study between 2017 & 2022, finding low rates of unsuppressed HIV (3.7%) that were highly associated with substance use and lack of access to a primary care provider. #CAHR2026
Dr. Aki Gormezano shared work looking at improving ethnoracial responses to STI incidence & predictors amongst GBM. Found high STI incidence among racial groups, particularly Arab, North African & West Asian GBM groups, indicating a need for tailored prevention efforts. #CAHR2026
Her analysis indicated no association between exposure to ritonavir or cobicistat and increased odds of fatal opioid overdose, even if it affects the blood levels of fentanyl, however due to study limitations, further analysis is underway. #CAHR2026
Ritonavir and cobicistat are CYP 3A4 inhibitors that have been associated with decreased clearance of fentanyl, so Dr. Katherine Kooij's presentation examined whether these inhibitors are associated with increased odds of a fatal opioid overdose. #CAHR2026
A packed house for a #CAHR2026 Late-Breaker, this was special!
Only the 10th person thought to be cured of HIV thanks to a bone marrow transplant, it may not represent a scalable cure, but is a Canadian milestone worth celebrating!
Congratulations to the teams in Toronto!
A Toronto patient who has been living with HIV for 27 years is in remission – and potentially cured, according to his doctors – after a bone marrow transplant from a donor naturally resistant to the virus.

The results showed that living with HIV and number of partners had high associations with event-level behaviour, illustrating the need for the integration of substance use and sexual harm reduction within STI clinic. #CAHR2026
Santiago Mijares Aguilera presented data from the first phase of the Momentum Study between 2012 and 2019 looking at factors associated with event-level concurrent drug use and condomless anal sex. #CAHR2026
