Another day, another cartoon blocked in India under the IT Rules.

Instagram restricted this cartoon in India, and now Facebook has also made the content unavailable on my account. But what exactly is the issue with this cartoon? Why has it been blocked? There is no clear explanation, no meaningful transparency—just another restriction.

I’m sharing this because people need to know what is happening to freedom of expression in India. Cartoons, humour and satire are essential parts of a healthy democracy. Cartoonists and satirists must be free to question those in power, challenge authority and hold governments accountable.

Yet, under the Modi government, even cartoons are increasingly facing restrictions.

When satire becomes a target and cartoons are silenced, it is not just the cartoonist who loses their voice—it is democracy itself that suffers.

Around 450 people from two villages in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur district received anti-rabies vaccinations after consuming charanamrit prepared from the milk of a cow suspected of having rabies.

The cow died on Tuesday evening after displaying unusual behaviour, prompting the Health Department to organise a vaccination drive as a precautionary measure.
