We're excited to finally announce ProyectoMural, the next phase of our effort reimagine the Franklin Corridor as a safe, welcoming, and vibrant public space! It's a collaboration with Latinx stakeholders who co-created the mural with local artists. https://t.co/SJu3bO9IV6
Statement regarding Barry Washington Jr. from Bend City Councilors:
We mourn the loss of Barry Washington Jr., who was killed this weekend in Downtown Bend. He was a son, a friend, and a member of this community. (1/4)
Is anyone else excited about infrastructure right now!? I mean, overlay the walk/bike renaissance that is happening with the grass-roots on-the-streets energy and the pending public investment… Perhaps we’ll build a future where our kids can safely walk to the store!
Green roofs and sustainable/efficient infrastructure absolutely is part of the vision, and was emphasized by the URAB committee. The vision is a prism made up of many different perspectives from across the community. Now we need the @CityofBend to lead on making it happen.
@atmendez@BCDinitiative It IS the vision! and the best/biggest 'land barons' are in support. We face headwinds from clunky development code enforcement, NIMBYism, and under-investment in infrastructure. We just might have the right leadership @CityofBend to rise to the vision of @BCDinitiative NOW!
@BCDinitiative Thank you @BCDinitiative for contributing to such a beautiful community event. This was the most inclusive and connective project that I have experienced in this part of Bend. Thank you for brightening our neighborhood and leading by example for a more connected future!
Stop by the Franklin ped/bike underpass today to check out the awesome new mural that @BCDinitiative and community members have been working on! It look fantastic 😍
Customers can drop in a dollar or more and the El Taquero owners #inBend will donate it to someone in need.
Implementing a “Giving Jar” might not be what you’d expect from the food truck that was robbed just five days ago.

“Part of this project is to bridge east and west, to bring attention to this really problematic area and to have a community-oriented way to re-envision it and really partner with the people on the ground.”

How to increase the number of people who use a bicycle to get to work or school or run errands #InBend ? Build protected bike lanes and make an end to car dependence.
Can you color within the lines? We have a couple of painting assistant shifts available today and tomorrow! We also need photographers and volunteers to help inform the public about this project! https://t.co/kbv47TLPzN
The mural now has all of the base coloring and some of the imagery so the final volunteer days will be about building community and filling in the details.
We just updated the calendar and need volunteers to sign up for the final shifts! https://t.co/kbv47TLPzN
What if I told you that a single young tree planted in a small pit over an impermeable asphalt surface can reduce rain runoff by around 60%, even during winter when not in leaf? You wouldn't believe me, but it's true.
What if I told you one study in Manchester found that shade from street trees reduced surface temperatures by an average of 12°C and that concrete surfaces shaded permanently by a bank of trees were cooled by up to 20°C in the summer? You wouldn't believe me. But it's true.
What if I told you there was a single intervention we could deliver in our cities that would cool them during heatwaves, reduce flooding, scrub pollutants from the air, boost biodiversity, improve public health, and even reduce crime? You wouldn't believe me. But it's true.
