On February 10, a Russian strike on Bohodukhiv in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region killed Hryhorii Shykula and the couple’s three young children - two-year-old twins Ivan and Vladyslav, and one-year-old daughter Myroslava.

Hryhorii was a Ukrainian veteran who had returned home from the war after losing a leg in service.

His wife, Olha, survived. She was pregnant with their fourth child.

Today, she stands alone where a family of six should have stood together.

"WXR Antenna"

On the Airbus A320, the WXR (Weather Radar) antenna is located inside the nose radome.

The antenna is mounted on a motorized pedestal that scans left/right and up/down to detect precipitation, thunderstorms, turbulence, and windshear ahead of the aircraft.

It scans approximately a 180° sector ahead of the aircraft and is stabilized using aircraft pitch and roll data.

Like all airborne weather radars, the system transmits microwave energy (X-band radar) through the antenna in the nose radome.

Rain, wet hail, and water droplets reflect energy back to the antenna.
