Three years ago today, we announced the launch of the Coquitlam Hockey Club, a new home for player development in the JPHL.
While the announcement came three years ago, the vision began nearly four years ago when General Manager Tali Campbell brought the idea to Governor Fayaz Manji: to create a complete hockey ecosystem that would support players both on and off the ice.
The first steps were building key partnerships with the City of Coquitlam and School District 43 to establish the Coquitlam Hockey Academy.
From there, the work never stopped.
New dressing rooms were built. A clubhouse was developed. New buses were added to improve the player experience. A state-of-the-art training facility and gym were eventually constructed.
But the facilities were only part of the vision.
Every decision was made with one goal in mind: helping young athletes become better hockey players, better students, and better people.
Looking back, it’s incredible to see how far we’ve come. Looking ahead, we’re excited about where we’re going.
The journey has been remarkable and we’re only just getting started.
Coquitlam Express President and General Manager Tali Campbell has announced the hiring of Mike Nesbitt as the team’s new Associate Coach and Director of Player Development.
Nesbitt joins the Express following a franchise record-setting season as Head Coach of the Westshore Wolves in the VIJHL. Prior to that, he spent one season in the NOJHL and four seasons as Head Coach of the Comox Valley Glacier Kings.
“We are extremely excited to welcome Mike to the Express organization,” said General Manager Tali Campbell. “Mike brings a tremendous work ethic, strong hockey knowledge, and a proven ability to build meaningful relationships with players and families. His experience and passion for development will make an immediate impact both on and off the ice.”
Welcome to Coquitlam, Mike!
Express President and General Manager Tali Campbell has announced the hiring of Lee Stone as the club’s new Director of Scouting.
Stone served last season as the team’s Associate Coach and Director of Player Development and will now transition into a management role focused on helping construct the roster.
“I’ve known Lee for over 10 years, and his ability to scout, identify talent, and find players who fit the needs of a team is exceptional,” said Campbell. “He will work alongside myself, our management team, and coaching staff to help build our roster during the offseason while continuing to evaluate players throughout the season to address any needs that arise.”
Stone will also continue in his role as Head Coach and General Manager of the Campbell River Storm.
Congratulations to the Brooks Bandits organization on capturing the Rogers BCHL Cup. A well-earned championship win and a tremendous achievement for your players and staff.
The Coquitlam Express and Express Foundation are honoured to present Port Moody Secondary School students Hannah Kim and Alicja Kwasniak with the 2026 Coquitlam Express Humanitarian Scholarship. Each student will receive $1,500 toward their post-secondary education.

The Coquitlam Express and Express Foundation proudly donate over $10,000 each year to support students pursuing higher education — a reflection of the values and commitment to community that the Express organization believes in.
Express President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Tali Campbell has announced the promotion of James Bissett to Academy Director.
James has been with the Express organization since starting as an intern in January of 2024 and has worked his way up through the organization through his hard work, commitment, and leadership.
“James has earned this opportunity through his dedication and passion for the organization,” said Campbell. “He has grown tremendously since joining the Express as an intern, and we’re excited to see him continue to lead and develop our academy program moving forward.”
Today, the hockey community mourns the loss of an amazing person, Ernie “Punch” McLean.
The Coquitlam Express send our deepest condolences to all those impacted by this heartbreaking loss. ❤️
Punch would often be found going to the gym upstairs at the Train Station and when he ran into our players he would always spend time telling them stories and giving them advice.
As we look back on another successful year in our alliance with the @JrProspectsHL, we would like to go back and congratulate their AAA champions from this season!
