John Swinney’s narrative that Murrell was an undetectable criminal mastermind is undermined by the details which were basically him tippexing out the words “fancy jewellery” on receipts then writing “important politics stuff”.
The utter stupidity of this is that Sturgeon’s culpability is nothing to do with her relationship with her husband or what a wife should know, must know or doesn’t know. It is purely and entirely down to her relationship with Murrell as his boss and her obligation to the party and public to ensure she saw the books and keep him accountable. She was the place where ‘the buck stopped’. She is responsible for her failures and potential complicity as the leader of the SNP. Forget the marriage; it’s a neat camouflage for and distraction from what matters. Focus on the roles and responsibilities.
Peter Murrell bought 108 toilet rolls just hours before then First Minister Nicola Sturgeon warned the public against panic buying during the Covid pandemic.
