DON’T FORGET: During the Biden-Harris administration — Congress had a BIPARTISAN bill that would’ve made the biggest increase in border security in decades — but, at the last minute, every Republican decided to vote no because a private citizen told them to.
His name was Donald J. Trump.
The 2024 bipartisan border bill — backed by Biden & Harris — was a $118 billion emergency package aimed at strengthening border security, reducing asylum backlogs, and capping daily migrant crossings.
It allowed — or, rather, mandated — DHS to close the border to most migrants if daily encounters averaged more than 4,000–5,000 per week.
It also significantly tightened asylum eligibility standards and expedited processing times — aiming to decide cases in months rather than years.
The package would’ve provided $20 billion for border initiatives — including new asylum officers, 100+ immigration judges, and increased detention capacity.
It had UNANIMOUS support and was about to be passed… until Trump threw a fit, didn’t want to give Biden a “win,” and threatened Republicans into voting “no.”
MAGA would rather run on a problem than fix it.
@ClaudetteGGibs1@MFB38000197 The courage of these medical workers, risking their lives, should NEVER be forgotten. Dr Fauci was amazing during this time, working hard and making sure to offset the “Clorox answer” dummies.
I was honored to present my @cnn colleague @kaitlancollins with the White House Correspondents Association “Excellence Under Deadline Pressure” award last night. I pointed out the judges were “awed” by the “depth of knowledge, access and context” that she brought to the news.
Hunter Biden: My dad had no control over the DOJ. You know how I got evidence of that? I got indicted twice and then I had to go to trial as a son of the president. My dad never picked up the phone and called Merrick Garland.
Lemon: You think he made the right decision pardoning you?
Hunter: 100%. Thank God. I'm incredibly grateful for that pardon particularly in light of what's happening right now. Particularly in watching Donald Trump indict you for covering a protest. By virtue of the fact of Donald Trump going after James Comey, John Brennan, Adam Schiff. If my dad had not pardoned me, Donald Trump would have his claws into my family.
Trump is really terrified that Democrats might have some oversight after the 2026 election, so he preemptively working to delegitimize America’s elections. That’s all this speech was. Undermining American elections. Outrageous.
@SenThomTillis Wow, to think you might vote on the facts presented now that you were bounced is such BS. You have no respect for the survivors if you actually think Blanche gives a shit about them. Still spineless I see.
When I heard about Senator Graham’s death last night, the first thing I thought about was not all the things he said and did in service of Donald Trump. I thought of the time before Donald Trump when he was a brother to Senator John McCain.
A time when senators from different parties could fight about politics and still be friends. A time when a conservative Republican from South Carolina could say of my father: “If you can’t admire Joe Biden as a person, you’ve got a problem. He’s the nicest person I’ve ever met in politics. As good a man as God ever created.”
That is the Senator Graham I will remember today. Not because I have forgotten what came after. Because in that memory there is hope. Hope for a country where brothers can fight like hell over policy and still share a meal, and a laugh, and the loss of the people they love.
I will choose to remember the time before Trump. Because I believe in an America after Trump.
