Doctor who’s passionate about improving access to & quality of care with innovative thinking & creativity | Politics, Health Policy & Advocacy | He/ Him
The unfathomable bit for me about protestors outside hospitals is that they think nurses and doctors - people who’ve dedicated their lives to helping people - are somehow part of a huge global movement to poison children and adults. It’s bloody astounding.
3) for those wearing #CrazySocks4Docs that aren’t in a position to effect change, thank you for your support. Those socks are small placards advocating for positive change and remind us we are all in this together.
1) Whilst I appreciate the groundswell of support #CrazySocks4Docs receives, I’d like to work in a world where doctors rosters are reasonable & safe and they are supported. To those administrators & senior clinicians who have the ability to effect change, the time to act is now.
2) the answer to widespread systemic pressure, two years of unprecedented stress & increasing burn out is not wearing crazy socks for one day. It comes with leadership, purposeful reform and protected rest/recovery time.
Speaking with the Murugappan family about my decision today as interim Home Affairs Minister to enable them to return #HometoBilo, the big-hearted QLD town which has embraced them so warmly #auspol
There is no such thing as being “pro-life” while supporting laws that let children be shot in their schools, elders in grocery stores, worshippers in their houses of faith, survivors by abusers, or anyone in a crowded place.
It is an idolatry of violence. And it must end.
Australia has spoken! Time for legitimate action on climate change, federal ICAC and a culture more supportive of women and gender equality. #progress#auspol
A reminder as petrol, gas & coal prices soar due to a horrible war… the price of the sunshine & wind powering 30% of our grid & all our electric vehicles… hasn’t changed.
It’s still a $0 cost input.
Energy independence comes from renewable abundance.
We send firefighters interstate and overseas to help when crisis demands it. Wondering why the Vic Govt hasn’t reached out for reinforcements rather than call a #CodeBrown? Surely there are other options than compelling exhausted frontline staff to work through much needed leave!
Do not underestimate the significant cost this will have on the physical and mental health of healthcare workers. Burnout is endemic. Exhaustion is chronic and palpable. Many gave up leave in winter to help during Delta. Now this… we are not an infinite resource.
Vic Govt: “Here’s an idea: let’s call a #CodeBrown to cover for a lack of planning, funding for appropriate resources & leadership. We’ll just call frontline staff back from leave (likely their first break in 2 years), we won’t even give them a choice… problem solved!”
