Batteries contain many raw materials that must find their way back to circular economy. This for, proper collection and recycling of waste batteries is of critical importance. It will also address fire hazards posed by lithium batteries in particular. 🔋🔥

Batterien sind Rohstofflager. Diese Rohstoffe müssen in den Kreislauf zurück gebracht werden. Dazu müssen Altbatterien ordnungsgemäß gesammelt und recycelt werden. Damit wird auch der Brandgefahr, die besonders von Lithium-Battterien ausgehen, entsprechend begegnet. 🔋🔥

The new EU Battery Regulation offers great opportunities for battery 🔋 recycling ♻️ in Europe - unfortunately, the Commission proposal has two crucial loopholes:
❌ No mandatory deposit!
❌ Far too low collection rates!
Batteries can be a fire hazard!

Incorrectly disposed of waste batteries regularly cause dangerous fire hazards 🔥 in vehicles and sorting plants.

We therefore need ambitious collection rates and a Europe-wide deposit system on top! ♻️

In the ongoing discussions on the EU-#Batteryregulation, our calls for:
✔️ ambitious collection targets
✔️ an EU-wide mandatory deposit on batteries 🔋
have been taken up. That's very good! We need these instruments to curb fire hazards 🔥 caused by incorrect disposal!
