@RazorFist I’m a longtime fan of your channel and also a convert to confessional Lutheranism (from evangelicalism in my case)… This might’ve just inspired me to go pick up a copy of Sacred Meditations.
Check out the Treasury of Daily Prayer too if you haven’t yet
@michaeljknowles I’m a Lutheran who agrees with Luther’s view… which also happens to be the Roman Catholic view
The only real distinction is that historically Protestants have viewed Semper Virgo as a pious opinion rather than dogma
@tylerduran21@GianmarcoSoresi If your political beliefs are “people should be murdered for expressing their political beliefs”, you should be exiled from public discourse
@WalmartThomist Just bought my first home. Patience is key because of how crazy the market is. Having a good experienced agent in your corner is also huge to help you make a competitive offer without going to the poor house
@C2Antiquity I love our Anglican brothers and probably consider them the closest to us.
That being said, I’m not Anglican because I find their hold on most doctrine to be too loose- with the exception of ecclesiology which they hold too tight
I was at Concordia St. Louis during Trump’s first term. Immigration was a hot topic among the student body. Following Dr. Biermann (who was the only professor who mentioned it) we were largely pro-immigration because God had called us to love our neighbors. Thankfully, watching the disaster that was immigration policy under Biden disabused me of the idea that allowing illegals to flood the country was a good and charitable thing to do.
A problem shared by all Christian churches (including papists, whose immigration policy would destroy the country if implemented) is that we have forgotten what is necessary for a good government to function. We have no working theory of politics, so every conversation devolves into emotionalism. One group grows nostalgic for Americana, the other has a bleeding heart for people who would destroy his town if they immigrated there in large numbers. I too am nostalgic for Americana, but that is not a sound basis for political theory.
In my humble opinion, it would be useful for every pastor to have a working knowledge of classical political theory because we are faced with Christian Nationalists on one side, who wouldn’t know what to do with the car if they caught it, and Dr. Biermann on the other, who doesn’t understand why flooding the country with people who don’t share our values will destroy it.
We just have to do better.
@BrLoganMichael Traditionally, private confession and absolution in the Lutheran Church is done at the altar rail. There’s nothing inherently wrong with the booths, but it’s not historically the tradition that the Lutherans inherited
@DrJordanBCooper I love your work Dr. Cooper, but I find myself disagreeing here.
Rhetorically, Trump is a train wreck on the issue of abortion. But in terms of accomplishments, he actually got Roe overturned while many more rhetorically pro-life politicians couldn’t do it
