RECAP on PlayStation phasing out physical media by January 2028, and rightful pushback as of July 8🚀

✅Sony announced that they won’t be issuing physical discs for games from January 2028 and beyond.

✅They also announced permanent shut down of PS3 and PS Vita stores from late 2026 to July 2027 (depending on region).

✅Massive outrage ensued, driven by concerns over game ownership and the very likely threat of games being removed and players paying a full purchase price when it’s technically just a license that can be revoked at any time without compensation.

✅PlayStation went completely silence for almost 96 hours now, with no posts on social media

✅Sony is facing multiple lawsuits over accusations of monopoly

✅Outrage persisted with people sharing their love for physical media and showing their collections of game discs from different eras, with many cancelling PlayStation Plus and their digital pre-orders of GTA6 and the likes

✅Conversation spread out across the world/mediums, gaining massive support and endless criticism of Sony’s strategy from companies, small studios, politicians, celebrities..etc condemning the move and calling for overturn of the decision

✅Sony became the subject of ridicule and comedy by various companies and players

Sony overestimated their value and thought that they’re immune from all consequences and that somehow they can do whatever and players will come around🚀

✅Wasting talent on GaaS no one wanted
✅Risk-averse development of same 4 IPs
✅Little to no innovation
✅Raising prices
✅Shutting down beloved studios
✅Underwhelming output for a whole gen
✅Attempting to end physical games, second market, options/competition in pricing and player ownership of games

Normally I support paying more for value, but where is that value? Most of their games play the same, feel the same, recycle the same IPs and hardly feel innovative, and it took you over 3 years to start releasing games exclusive to this generation, and they weren’t even that special.

And now it’s like the mask has fallen off and the greed has become so shameless in the name of “evolution”, a narrative that you engineered on lies and data manipulation.

Enough is enough

We shouldn’t be worshiping corporations like a cult, justifying all their shortcomings, and turning against each other.

We need to look out for our best interest.

It looks like Naughty Dog wants physical gaming to stay!😎

Though this isn’t a new banner, it is interesting if they’re using it as protest against phasing out physical media and they’d be the most BASED studio🫶🏼

I genuinely haven’t been excited, or felt a huge pay-off for my hype for anything music-related since 2005 like I am now for this!

This game and company represent the most depressing side of the video game industry🚀

✅Infested with MTX
✅No new IPs for decades
✅No risk-taking
✅Favoring online over story DLC
✅Now pushing for no physical media
✅Prioritizing the most casual-focused game design, technically Fortnite

Good graphics, B-movie level lighting and balls-shrinking detail doesn’t change any of that

Regardless of whether you enjoyed the worlds or gameplay design of RDR and GTA, the studio’s strategy and approach to game design represents worst side of gaming

The fact that they still haven’t made a single new IP for decades shows that they are a one trick pony cashing in on the sudden and undeserved popularity of one IP🎤
