@KaleviHeinoFI I've really become enamored by this album recently, it's become a favorite. People tend to consider Grey and Pink their best but this one is much more satisfying IMO. It all just feels so good.
I recently watched an episode of Match Game '74 (a year before Jaws) where the audience match was "Great White [BLANK]." None of the top three audience answers was "SHARK" and none of the panelists suggested it as a possibility. (learning cultural history from dumb TV ephemera)
Well the "Jaws effect" isn't real, for starters. Jaws was part of a larger, older social phenomenon responsible for the public's increased interest in/fear of sharks. The outcome would've been the same even if Jaws had never been made.
@Qui_Quae_Quod42 In The War Games the Time Lords are able to capture the Doctor with ease once they know where he is, but when they learn the Master is on Earth in Terror of the Autons two seasons later they just shrug their shoulders and go "Eh, what can we do?"
@girldrawsghosts I just finished Season 5 in my rewatch, it's fun spotting things like that with hindsight. Like S5 Mike doing invention exchanges and reading letters, and generally maintaining the gentler Joel-era vibe ("Hostess snowballs for everyone!") before settling into the Mike we all know
The next video update should be Pearl Forrester smoking a cigarette and counting the Kickstarter money with her money counting machine, Overdrawn at the Memory Bank style. #MST3K
In the not-too-distant future, RiffTrax is making four new episodes of Mystery Science Theater 3000! Support us on Kickstarter: https://t.co/RuqvOU45Bc #RiffTraxMakesMST3K
@girldrawsghosts The casual byplay between the characters in the theater segments added so much to this vibe. When one character makes a comment the others will often react as if they're hearing it for the first time, with a chuckle or a breezy off-the-cuff reaction.
I've never been on Bluesky but I imagine when you step inside you're hit with the sound of thousands of scolds saying "Do better" like the chirping of crickets.
@batmanmarch The way he looks at the others like children and explains things in the most condescending way possible is really unbearable. You can't even call it moderating, since nothing he says is designed to get any kind of response from the others beyond "Oh really?"
@TheCyberdevil I received my Region 1 set yesterday and went into Zygons hoping that the complaints about AI smoothing were overreactions. Man, it was as bad as everyone says it is. I'm shocked that it was allowed out the door in that state.
@Sasha_Screens I was on a Hammett kick once and read Maltese Falcon and The Thin Man. The Thin Man made for an interesting comparison with its movie adaptation. William Powell lighted up the Nick Charles character quite a bit in the movie.
@MikeMacRaeMike Charlton Heston showed himself to be a real-life hero when he walked away from Moore's tasteless hectoring with such grace and dignity.
