Will there be some sort of loan package for these nurses? Certainly, the minister doesn't expect a nurse who has been unemployed for more than 4 years to raise money and put himself through another training, which he is not 100% sure will gurantee him a job?
I have been following the minister's (@KMAkandoh) interviews and as a nurse, I feel conflicted by his submissions.
1. The minister has mentioned on countless occasions that we can't absorb all nurses into the government sector, and I strongly agree with this...
The ministry, through the Ghana NMC, can achieve this. What is the situation on that? Is the ministry, through its agency, going to control the number of nurses trained, like how they want to control migration?
3. About the specialist trainings that @KMAkandoh highlights...
@Bizontw3 @JoyNewsOnTV I don't think it should be the sole responsibility, but they could do better with regulation. Additionally, private facilities have been unattractive to nurses because of the horrible conditions of service (how can you pay a nurse 800cedis) and even though these facilites..
@Bizontw3 @JoyNewsOnTV ...Trained every year, and they offer permits to these schools for training. Yet they have not done anything to regulate this issue. They are quick to write letters on professionalism and slow to respond to their own responsibilities.
@Bizontw3 @JoyNewsOnTV I agree with some aspects of your comment, but let's not forget the government's role in the massive training of these healthworkers despite its inability to employ them. The NMC is a governmental body and always aligns with the government. They know the number of students...
Hey data people, @StatsGhana has updated the microdata for the Annual Household Income and Employment Survey (AHIES). You now have access to 12 quarters of data covering education, labour and employment, health, housing, income, household consumption, expenditure, and more. The data is available in multiple formats:
•SPSS (.sav)
•STATA (.dta)
•CSV
Looking forward to seeing what researchers and data folks do with this! I’ll be digging in myself too!

@CallmeAlfredo@StatsGhana Unfortunately, the labelling/definition of the variables is quite poor. I think GSS should consider DHS variable labelling principles in the future
The government had the audacity to complain about brain drain in the health sector when this is how they treat their professionals. The people who are gonna keep the health system alive, people who are literally saving lives. What a shitty country
New poll shows Dr Bawumia with a clear lead among all voters but loses ground among delegates to undecided as Kennedy Agyapong fail to capitalize on Bawumia's slip.

@kossisoroyce I would love to see this! come to fruition. My master's thesis is going to be published, though(the first paper is out already in PlosOne). I will search for my undergrad dissertation and join this movement
A lot of final-year research projects in Nigeria go unpublished, regardless of quality or merit. This means poor representation in research and scientific documentation. We want to change that.
Do you still have a digital copy of your final-year research project, and would you be willing to share it for our online repository for African research?
Please retweet for others.
