CORPORAL NATHAN CIRILLO
December 23, 1989 – October 22, 2014

On this day, 12 years ago, Canada lost one of its own.

On October 22, 2014, Corporal Nathan Cirillo, just 24 years old, was standing ceremonial guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Ottawa’s National War Memorial when he was fatally shot in a terrorist attack that shocked the nation.

A proud member of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders of Canada, Nathan was a soldier from Hamilton, Ontario, a devoted father, a son, and a friend.

He was there that morning to honour Canadians who had made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country. Tragically, he would join their ranks.

Twelve years later, we remember not only how Corporal Cirillo died, but how he lived, the uniform he wore with pride, and the family he left behind.

He stood on guard for Canada. Today, Canada remembers him.

Rest in peace, Corporal Nathan Cirillo. 🇨🇦
