@JDVance On the state legislature level, Nevada's Republicans votes far exceeded the Democrats (537K vs 397K), yet because of the gerrymandering in that state, Democrats got 26 seats while Republicans got 16. This is from 2022, but more or less the same happened in 2024.
@JDVance If we got rid of Congressional districts and went to state wide proportional representation, we wouldn't have this mess. NV would have 2 Reps and 2 Dems in Congress if this was the case. Instead, they split up Vegas in a way to make it so 3 Dems win on very slim margins.
@DrMcThickens@ewarren Why not just reduce the number of migrants, get big investment firms out of the housing market and encourage policies which promote more families (i.e. people living together)?
@ewarren So basically get billionaires money, funnel it through government, subsidize the cost of buying houses causing the cost to go up even more and then funneling that profit over to the lobbyist who are invested in the housing industry.
Get Blackrock out of the market, howbout that
@sunmoonbuffalo@The8BitIdiot@allkaywhy It works on military bases. I've lived in onpost housing for several years and while the floor plans suck, the construction standards, repair and maintenance have been much better than what is found in the rental market. Call any little problem in, its fixed within the week.
@SuzanneBos43679@bennpeifert Why are Democrats like this? Its a wonder how they gain any power at all, they can't even make a reasonable argument. Do the world a favor, don't have children.
@allkaywhy@sunmoonbuffalo@The8BitIdiot It'd still be a government of some sort, but very personable. I'm talking populations of no more than 10,000 households, 40,000 citizens, perhaps a mayor and a town council directly elected along with other officials. Very controlled by the people and within shake hands distance.
@SuzanneBos43679@bennpeifert Eventually those Dads had to tell their wives that they have to go get a job so the family could make ends meet cause the funny money wage they are forced to take isn't enough. That's how the dual income family became the norm.
@SuzanneBos43679@bennpeifert a first offer which was a lower wage Than the single income family dad also applying in hopes of a single family income wage.
@allkaywhy@sunmoonbuffalo@The8BitIdiot Ok, let's modify the word "City" and change it to "Community"; community being defined as like minded people with shared values who love their own people and want to see the best for each individual within the community. Would that help in ensuring the money was used as intended?
@BuenoForMiami To add, having your parents live with you is another life hack- they help raise the kids while your husband is off building a career, they help fill in the gaps you and your husband would otherwise have to leave undone. Also helps if they provide a paid off house.
@sunmoonbuffalo@The8BitIdiot@allkaywhy What if the city owned all homes/apartments, you get accomodations right sized for your family or self, pay 20% of your income no matter what it is in rent but the rent goes directly into funding city services?
@BarcoCTO@twbryant88@bennpeifert If there weren't child labor laws in place, middle class families sending their kids off to work in a factory would become necessary just as the 2 income family is necessary now. You made a great point, didn't think to describe it that way before.
