@ithayla I’m nominal, thanks for asking 😛 Apparently I’m at the age where one parent’s failing health and complex ecological maintenance can make an entire year go by with no art created. I got fiber internet in August though! I’ll be back one day! Will come find you.
@craigtimes@JesseScheckner Right now the Florida way to get out of property taxes is to put your land in a conservation easement. If there are no property taxes for anybody then will large landowners bother with conservation anymore?
@AmbystoMax I have a pear tree in my yard that makes pears like that. It has been through fire and drought and keeps making pears! It’s called a pineapple pear for some unknown reason. Very crunchy and good for cooking. Try making a pear pie!
@robcruickshank I have a 20% off coupon. I can’t think of anything I need to solder, but it will be fun to find it in the case with my soldering iron next time I get it out. Thanks for the recommendation!
@robcruickshank I don’t have any cat food tins so I’m tempted to buy the one that includes the cute holder. Is there a tiny speaker around the back that makes droid babble noises?
@robcruickshank I was putting together an order on Zoro so I searched “brass wool” and the first hit said “for cleaning lead free solder”. I’m still using rosin core tin/lead solder. Is the sponge better for that?
@RojSmith I think resistance isn’t really our biggest problem anymore anyway. Solving energy storage would be a better breakthrough. Make lithium AA batteries cheaper for one thing. I need new ones in my trail cams!
@RojSmith Looks like I was right about LK99. It is definitely not a superconductor. The contamination of copper sulfide in their sample made it behave like a diamagnet which they erroneously interpreted as the Meisner effect

@RobertCMahon Anything over 25 years old is eligible for a special hobby antique vehicle plate in Georgia. My car is 27 years old 🧐 But it’s not a hobby, it’s my primary form of transportation!
This morning at Home Depot. Big trucks + bad drivers = lines in the parking lots need to be farther apart. I am glad I came out first so I could get in from my passenger side and skillfully back out of there because they for sure would have hit my car backing out.
I’ve spent much of this year learning about car bloat, the process through which smaller vehicles are being replaced by increasingly massive SUVs and trucks.
What I’ve learned: Huge cars are terrible for society, often in ways that are hidden.
A summary 🧵
