@NNweather @ChronandEcho I too have witnessed turning vehicles going through when the pedestrian crossings are on green, precisely because as you say they become stranded when the lights change. It does urgently need addressing as the point of the works was to make the junction safer for pedestrians.

I do lots of talks about how Christians should think about politics, I even wrote a book about it. In short: 1) Don’t panic, all empires are temporary, God is sovereign and 2)…but do care deeply, do not give up on your neighbour, serve them and contend for their welfare.

Etymology of the day is 'on tenterhooks' (not 'tenderhooks'): tenters, once a common sight, are wooden frames on which freshly milled cloth is stretched so that it dries without shrinking. To be on tenterhooks is to be as tense and taut as the cloth itself.
