Tim Farron

MP for Westmorland & Lonsdale. Former leader of @LibDems

Promoted by M Barwise on behalf of T Farron both at Acland House Yard 2 Stricklandgate Kendal LA9 4ND

The Tories and Labour have created a farm payment scheme which actively disincentivises the production of food.

This is utter madness.

We are failing our farmers and we are failing our people as we sleepwalk into no longer being able to guarantee that we can feed our country.

[Edward Morello MP @EdwardMorelloWD]

The recent application window for the Sustainable Farming Incentive funding was a disaster, lasting barely 6 hours. My speech yesterday on the what the Government must do before we lose more vital food production.

[Rachel Gilmour, MP for Tiverton & Minehead @RachelGilmourLD]

The Liberal Democrats used our Opposition Day to put farming on the agenda. And I took the opportunity to speak for farmers in Tiverton and Minehead.

Conservative and Labour governments have both failed to deliver a post-Brexit payment system that works. 1/2

Today, I challenged Labour ministers to go much further to stop water companies from dumping sewage in Britain's waterways.

So it was utterly bizarre to see Tory MPs yet again annoyed at Lib Dems raising this issue.

We won't stop fighting to protect our rivers, lakes and seas.

[Farmers Guardian @FarmersGuardian]

🗣️ "You cannot run national food security on a digital lottery..."

@LibDems MP @timfarron has delivered a passionate speech in the House of Commons, taking aim at both the Conservatives and Labour over their handling of British farming support.

He criticised the Conservatives over the phase-out of the BPS and the design of SFI, while accusing Labour of failing to address the problems, culminating in the latest funding window closing in under six hours. ❌

The LibDems are now calling for guaranteed funding for eligible farmers who missed out on SFI, alongside an additional £1 billion a year for environmental land management schemes.

Farmers have been left high and dry by the SFI shambles - a policy appallingly designed by the Conservatives and woefully implemented by Labour.

Today, @LibDems led a debate in Parliament calling for proper support for farmers to protect our environment AND produce food.

[Tim Farron @timfarron]

This is really exciting news and is the result of campaigning over many years.

This is an ambitious solution that could solve this problem.

It’s now important to help get the details right and I will be working hard with others to make sure that we do.

Cancer patients in South Cumbria face gruelling 3-4-hour round trips every day for weeks on end to receive life-saving radiotherapy in Preston.

This awful, unequal access to treatment costs lives.

We need a satellite radiotherapy unit at Westmorland General Hospital.

@lucas_haslam Thank you!

Along with 21 fellow volunteers, I completed our 13 mile overnight walk from Kendal to Crooklands (and back) along the canal. We’re raising money for housing need charity, Manna House. We’d love it if you would donate to their life-transforming work: https://t.co/rs4xyic1vH

A great evening at Parr Street Church Kendal, with @timfarron MP and an @APPGNK2024 member. A thoughtful discussion on Christian persecution, political situations & the security challenges posed by NK regime. Also reflected on the freedoms we often take for granted in the West.

[Tim Farron @timfarron]

On Friday evening it was a privilege to host @Timothycho08 - and hear hugely moving testimony of his escape from persecution and coming to faith in Christ.

@JoshFG Top quality muesli though!

On Friday, I'll be leading a 13-mile overnight sponsored walk to raise money for Manna House - an incredible homeless prevention charity in Kendal who, in these tough financial times, really need our help.

You can support them by sponsoring me here: https://t.co/y37QjdN9ge

New fathers in full-time employment can take up to two weeks off work, but they cannot receive statutory paternity leave and pay if they are self-employed.

With one in four people in Westmorland working for themselves, I challenged the Government to support self-employed dads.

[Tim Farron @timfarron]

1 in 4 homes in Westmorland and Lonsdale were built before 1900.

They are very expensive to heat and difficult to insulate.

I'm urging the Government to come forward with a plan to insulate older properties - which would cut energy bills and keep people warm this winter.

[Tim Farron @timfarron]

@THE_Chris_Evans Hmm. We’ve been doing ludicrous hard work for all 40 years of my membership of the Party (and long before). However, this time that hard work was rewarded by our biggest seat haul in living memory…because we’ve got the right leader.

[Tim Farron @timfarron]

This is wise…
Do we want short term headlines, or do we want to actually make a difference?:

[Ed Davey @EdwardJDavey]

I’m not going to agree with Andy Burnham on everything, but this statement needed to be said by a Prime Minister. After the Conservatives suppressed the truth for years, this took courage.

[Tim Farron @timfarron]

I think it’s quite likely that there is a growth in the numbers of people becoming Christians and going to church… and also in the numbers of people who could be called Christian Nationalists, and that the two may not be all that related.
