@matt23222943 @terrychristian Zero tax on food. Tax on farm inputs all claimed back. The only tax payable is on profits. Maybe Matt, just maybe, if a few wealthy land owners who bought up land to avoid paying tax now had to pay tax, the many could now avoid paying more tax on our hard earned wages.

@matt23222943 @terrychristian Tax is only an issue for the wealthy. We pay tax so we can all have a health service, education, law and order, be defended etc etc. If everybody paid a fair % we would all be better off except a few who have more than they need.

@ryanseanbadger @terrychristian The inheritance tax threshold was £71000 in 86. There was no nil rate for residence. Farmers had to pay inheritance tax back then like everybody else. Inheritance tax exemptions on farmland are the reason farm rents and land prices have been driven beyond the reach of many.

@VeryBritishTory @terrychristian Ancestors? In my county, 4 wealthy people and the church owned the land in the 1800's. Farmers were estate workers or tenants. The creation of estate tax or death duties is the very reason why many of today's farming families had the opportunity to own the land they farm today

It inflated land prices and was a reason many farmers had to work on beyond retirement age. Their children wanted to sell up rather than do the hard graft.

@terrychristian Many farmers would love to own their own land, but they are tenant farmers. The cost and availability of land being beyond reach. Because since the 80s non farmers have bought up land for tax avoidance and inflated land prices.
