@ryanwinchester Some people write tech specs, I often get away with a spike proof of concept and a half-working demo. (I write code as part of communicating with the team)
@ryanwinchester Reading the replies about meeting avoidance and it resonates. Staff engineer for me (when it’s going well) is about finding the balance between code I write alone and code I collab or pair on with others. Team can get more done faster/better than I could on my own
@johncutlefish Tech spec, RFC, PRD… ya these are probably different things. But really I think what matters is the context sharing and the comments and the thing will surely become out of date buts it’s better than having a series of meetings
@coderberry We set an env bar called WHOAMI when connecting to production and then https://t.co/fvaK11CKBt works in production console (a column on users table maps the whoami value to user object, you get a warning if you login with not-found user)
@schneems Defining a method called “scoped” that takes some configuration arguments and contains some logic to apply some defaults to those arguments e.g Image.scoped(include_deleted: true) when you explicitly need to get the soft-deleted ones but Image.scoped.where etc elsewhere
@vivianphung Those things in children’s museums where you watch metal balls go down the track and up a conveyor over and over and in the same pattern but there are 3 idle metal balls at the bottom just hanging out proving that sometimes they go off the track but you can never see it happen
