my best advice for getting into tech 2024

tech is open to anyone with enough grit. it's hard, it's really really hard. harder than a lot of people will tell you. it continues to be hard and i suspect it's getting harder

* some bugs take an enormous amount of investigation

* sometimes you work with someone that drives you nuts

* tech can be numbingly boring

learn to love the process. i never had the privilege of "doing something i loved because..." (broke/threatened with murder) but i learned to love the pain and i learned to love the process

to this day i am regularly rediscovering it, regularly stoking desire and passion for tech. i have no idea how anyone makes it for 30 years without a desire, hope, and passion, but most of all, a touch of love

even the most boring tasks can be the greatest teachers

why is midjourney only accessible through a discord bot with a weird chat api. why isnt there just a web interface. i'm so confused

@ThePrimeagen Beginners need to learn to build up the DOM via createElement/appendChild

That is the web equivalent using C/ malloc/free

Even if you did drop off, you can always come back later. It's never too late to learn.

Was advent of code always this challenging? This is my first time and it’s starting to exceed the limits of my free time.

@ThePrimeagen We got a junior who typed at 60 wpm

Nothing worse than a teammate who writes bad code slowly

Does anyone else remember the pain of hearing the term “API” for the first time and trying to figure out what the fuck it even was?

[Bearish @bearishcodes]

My most complicated project to date. Gave Mantine a try. It's a'ight, nice when it works but overall, I don't like how styling works in it, feels restrictive and inconsistent at times

Preact and signal are pretty cool though. Would use again
