“But how can we afford paid leave?”
“But how can we afford child care?”
“But how can we afford free community college?”
“But how can we afford universal health care?”
US billionaires added $1.6 trillion to their wealth during Covid.
We tax them. That’s how we can afford it.
Everyone depends on the USPS. Seniors for their Social Security, veterans for their prescriptions, small businesses trying to keep their doors open. They can't be collateral damage for an administration more concerned with suppressing the vote than suppressing a virus.
@BarackObama@chipublib I start my school year reading several books like this (have you read Max’s Words by Kate Banks?) to teach my students the power of words.
Tonight we did a little parade for our students around the neighborhood. It filled me with such joy to see my staff and my kids 💗 If that’s all we get, then today, that’s enough.
I love the districts who are putting teachers first. They are not micromanaging them. Trusting them to reach out to their students & letting them take care of their own families first & checking in on their health. These districts rock & your teachers love you for it & so do I!
@clivebarkerinfo@RealCliveBarker Thank you for the quick response! I was reading that some authors were giving permission, but that are certain stipulations (video has to be unlisted or taken down after use, things like that).
@RealCliveBarker Hey Clive. I am a 5th grade teacher, and when we left school last week we were in the middle of The Theif of Always. Given the pandemic, we are on break indefinitely. Can teachers have permission to record themselves reading your books for our students?
@BrianMendler Help them rewrite the narrative they have developed for themselves! “I always get in trouble,” can become, “Sometimes I get frustrated and I don’t know how to handle it,” or, “Sometimes I make choices that don’t help me solve my problems.” From there, we can build strategies.
Some days you get to school early, rock all your lessons, and make it the gym. Some days you find a black banana and a bag of green juice—that used to be star fruit—in your school bag. And sometimes those happen on the same day. It's called balance.
Today a student said, “Mrs. Wilke, you’re a really good teacher. You’re going to be a really good mom.” And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why I teach. #whyIteach#kidversations
Strong principals challenge the process. They are the voice and the support for their staff. When district hands down initiatives or mandates that aren’t working they speak up. They’re the vanguard for their school and staff.
