Funny you should mention @PierrePoilievre because his fans keep saying Carney steals all his ideas. Here's the thing. Carney’s new investment tax break is more classically conservative, and more free market, than Poilievre's proposal during the campaign. I’ve been saying for a while that Poilievre thinks small while Carney thinks big. This is a good example.

During the 2025 election campaign, Poilievre proposed deferring capital gains tax if the money was reinvested in Canada. Carney is trying to change the economics of investing in Canada altogether regardless of where the money originates, with the result that Canada would have the lowest marginal effective tax rate on new investment in the G7, less than half the U.S. rate.

Delaying IPOs and having OpenAI say they would “melt their GPUs to save humanity it it came to it”

Something bad happened…

There is no world in which everyone, including Elon, suddenly started to be worried about this on the same weekend.

There was also a rumor that this week Google cracked recursive AI, which I doubt would trigger this reaction.

Clearly an agent went rogue in a dangerous and malicious way, and it was something severe enough to spook everyone.
