My message to fans of the #Bears, as one who watched my team move from Shea Stadium to nearby East Rutherford, NJ.
It is never the same again.
It’s still your team, you still root like hell for them, but it isn’t ever the same again.
@sickpodadamrank@adamrank That’s the only thing that matters. Want a night out on the town in a picturesque environment? Go to Chicago on a Saturday night. But come Sunday morning, make the drive to a world class stadium watching a world class team, wherever the hell that is.
I don’t know if it’s the “best stadium deal in modern sports history” but he got a better deal done with IN than he would’ve gotten with IL.
If Bears fans weren’t so butt hurt about the prospect of them leaving the state, maybe they could see the smart financial decision.
For those who want Kevin Warren fired, here’s the reality:
He just brokered the best stadium deal in modern sports history. He will be in massive demand and this will be a huge benefit to him wherever he goes next.
That’s the reality!
Not really sure that’s the best advice. You give up all leverage. Before the Bears even mentioned “Indiana” the Illinois legislature made it clear the Bears were not a priority.
Many who go to games will not like it, but the Bears will thrive across the state line. They follow a long line of good businesses out of Illinois, and many more are likely to follow, given the leadership in the Land of Lincoln.
I will continue to be amazed by how many people put more emphasis on the outside of the stadium than on the inside.
Couldn’t care less if they plopped a stadium down in a desert or a cornfield.
Just build a huge capacity domed stadium and put a winner on the field.
Statement from Matt Hill, the spokesperson for Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker: "The Bears have built a storied legacy in Illinois for over 100 years but have spent the last six years, and especially the last few months, shifting their position on a stadium location. That has hindered their progress. Today appears to be another instance of that after Illinois leaders have been working with the Bears in good faith. Governor Pritzker has always been clear that he wants the Bears to stay in Illinois and still remains open to a sensible solution that protects taxpayers."
Like I’ve said all along…
Chicago. Arlington Heights. Hammond. Dark Side of the Moon.
I don’t care where my beloved team actually calls home.
Just build a freaking high-capacity stadium for the charter franchise, please and thank you.
The Bears’ Board of Directors voted Thursday to advance the stadium development in Hammond, Indiana, with the exact to be selected. This is this first time that the Bears’ board has voted on any stadium site.
As one source said, “There is more work to do but barring anything very strange, it’s a done deal.”
Mmhmm.
Mmhmm.
Mmhmm.
At some point, when the result is repeatable because the team — and the quarterback — make plays in crunch time, it looks less like magic and more like talent.
