Grupo de investigación de la Universidad Militar Nueva Granada, interesados en la biología y ecología de las abejas nativas y otros himenópteros en Colombia,
Movie time with Lucía Aguilar Benavides & Dario Guevara Plata! 🍿
We’ve been treated to a fabulous overview of their work at @beaslab in Colombia 🇨🇴
Their “Bombinario” provides a unique opportunity for outreach! Very impressive! #ECN2024
I am delighted to share the digital copy of the booklet "Abejas del Parque Chicaque". You can down it here: https://t.co/DHSrvqTKkK
The first 50 people to sign up here will receive one printed copy via mail: https://t.co/3oyyv1APaR

Project 3 - Does variation in body and appendage size across elevation and temperature gradients in bee communities? We found strong correlation indicating that species richness decreases, body size increases and appendages decrease with elevation https://t.co/ufOttLJNSo
Project 4 - Can raspberry pis be implemented to study foraging behavior in social bees? Yes! This technology was successfully implemented and we found support suggesting that larger bumble bees start foraging earlier than smaller bees in the same colony https://t.co/4Ea4ecaS7Z
Project 1 - How does shade impact plant vegetative, reproductive, and floral traits?
We found that blueberries and strawberries benefit from shade (for vegetative, reproductive and photosynthetic traits)

Project 2 - Does variation in body size and color offer an advantage to bees across elevation and temperature gradients?
We found that color and body size help with thermoregulation but size is more important for social bees and color for solitary bees https://t.co/KwQamG6QJs
We had the great opportunity today to give a presentation to the 10th graders of Colegio San Isidrio from Cajica. #NSFIRES students talked about climate change and pollination and results of their research projects this summer @beaslab@lamilitar@lopezuribelab@AgSciResearch
Getting ready for our final presentations next week! Looking forward to sharing all the amazing science we worked this summer! #NSF@lopezuribelab@beaslab@lamilitar
We've been catching an amazing diversity of bees! The orchid bee traps baited with various chemical lures have captured so many cool bees and we are learning a lot about the changes in bee communities across Colombia 🇨🇴 🐝 @beaslab@ColombianComPSU
