ASSAM RIFLES CONDUCTS PULSE POLIO IMMUNIZATION CAMPAIGN ACROSS NAGALAND
#AssamRifles organised Pulse Polio Immunization Campaigns across Nagaland on 29 Jun 2026 as part of the National Pulse Polio Immunization Programme, reaffirming its commitment towards child healthcare and supporting the Government of India’s mission to eradicate polio. The immunization drives were conducted at Tuensang and Mokokchung Garrisons in coordination with the Civil Health Department. The campaigns witnessed enthusiastic participation from the families of Assam Rifles personnel as well as the local civil population.

Another Perspective on the Army–Police Incident in Jammu & Kashmir

As discussions continue around the recent Army–Police incident in Jammu & Kashmir, it is important to consider the concerns being raised from the Army’s perspective while allowing due process and any official inquiry to establish the facts.

According to reports, the incident began when a vehicle carrying Army personnel and family members, including children, was involved in a brief delay on a narrow stretch of road while attempting to give way to the vehicle of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Kishtwar, Mr. Pankaj Sharma. In the difficult terrain of the region, such situations can occur and are often resolved without further incident.

However, what has generated concern among Army personnel and veterans is the manner in which the situation allegedly escalated thereafter. It has been alleged that vehicles carrying Army families were seized on the verbal directions of the DC without following established procedures. Reports further suggest that efforts to resolve the matter through dialogue at the police station were unsuccessful. Some accounts also allege that weapons were brandished and cocked during the confrontation, including in the presence of Army personnel who had arrived to assist their families. These allegations remain subject to verification.

A particularly contentious issue relates to the FIR registered following the incident. According to reports, the FIR names a Commanding Officer, a Major, and several Army personnel under multiple charges. It has been alleged that the Commanding Officer and the Major were not present at the location at the time of the incident and were, in fact, stationed elsewhere. If these claims are found to be correct, questions may naturally arise regarding the basis on which senior officers were named in the case.

Many within the Army fraternity believe that the actions allegedly taken by the DC reflected a disproportionate response to what initially appeared to be a minor traffic-related disagreement. There is a perception among some veterans and serving personnel that personal ego may have played a role in the escalation of the matter. While this remains an allegation, it is one of the central concerns being voiced by those seeking an independent inquiry.

Further allegations have also surfaced regarding the DC’s past interactions with the Army. On condition of anonymity, some individuals have claimed that approvals and No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for certain Army welfare initiatives under Operation Sadbhavana were allegedly delayed or denied on multiple occasions. Others have alleged that there has been a pattern of dismissive behaviour towards Army requests. These claims have not been independently verified and should be examined objectively before any conclusions are drawn.

The larger concern being expressed is not about the supremacy of one institution over another. Rather, it is about ensuring that the relationship between the civil administration and the Armed Forces remains one of mutual respect and cooperation.

Several questions have emerged from this episode:

What mechanisms exist to ensure that disputes involving civil authorities and military personnel are handled fairly and without bias?
Can Army personnel and their families expect adequate protection and impartial treatment when such disputes arise?
How can confidence between institutions be maintained if allegations of misuse of authority are left unaddressed?

The overwhelming majority of officers in the civil administration, police, and Armed Forces work together professionally and effectively. However, incidents such as this can create perceptions that undermine trust if they are not examined transparently.

A fair, impartial, and independent inquiry is therefore essential—not only to determine the facts of this particular case but also to ensure accountability wherever it is warranted.

ASSAM RIFLES CONDUCTS OUTREACH DRIVE FOR VETERANS IN MOKOKCHUNG, NAGALAND

#AssamRifles conducted an Outreach Drive for Ex-Servicemen (ESM) and their dependents at Mokokchung, Nagaland on 23 Jun 2026. The event was chaired by Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, DG Assam Rifles and attended by senior Assam Rifles officers and civil dignitaries. Around 300 ESMs and dependents from across Nagaland participated. A total of 32 grievances received in which 24 were resolved on the spot, while the remaining 08 cases were taken up for further examination and necessary action in HQ DGAR.

Free medical consultation and medicines were provided to 66 beneficiaries, and welfare guidance was extended to 30 ESMs and dependents. Veer Naris, Veer Matas and gallantry awardees were felicitated, while wheelchairs, walkers, walking sticks and hearing aids were distributed to needy veterans.

The initiative reaffirmed Assam Rifles’ steadfast commitment to the welfare of its veterans and their families.

The programme was conducted by the Medical Officer of Assam Rifles along with a Civil Doctor from the TB Centre, Dr. Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital, Mokokchung to educate students and staff members about the causes, symptoms, prevention and treatment of Tuberculosis.

ASSAM RIFLES INSPIRES YOUTH THROUGH “A DAY WITH COMPANY COMMANDER” IN NAGALAND
Assam Rifles, under the theme “Igniting Young Minds,” organised “A Day with Company Commander” at Aboi, Nagaland on 07 May 2026 with participation of 60 students and 12 teachers, staff and locals from Wanka School, Government Public School and Government Polytechnic College. The event included a flag hoisting ceremony, interaction with troops, guidance on Agniveer and SSC entry schemes, and a tour of the Company area to familiarise students with Assam Rifles’ functioning. Cultural activities, a dog show and fun games added enthusiasm and promoted teamwork and cultural awareness. The programme concluded with lunch, prize distribution and an interactive session, strengthening community engagement and inspiring youth towards nation-building and service.

The expedition, being conducted by Assam Rifles in partnership with Hero MotoCorp, continues to showcase the spirit of adventure, resilience and unity that defines the Northeast.
Addressing the participants prior to the flag-off, Assam Rifles lauded the initiative as a unique platform for promoting regional connectivity, adventure tourism and youth engagement, while further strengthening civil–military bonds. The senior officer highlighted that such expeditions not only test endurance and teamwork but also act as a bridge between the Armed Forces and local communities across the region, reinforcing mutual trust and shared purpose.
