Understanding the difference between embossing and spot UV is important if you want the final packaging to match what you’re picturing. A lot of people lump these together, but they’re two completely different processes that create very different results.
Spot UV is a glossy coating applied on top of the printed surface. It creates contrast and a slightly raised feel by layering clear gloss, making certain elements stand out when they catch the light.
Embossing physically pushes the material itself upward. The depth comes from the board being shaped, not from added ink or coating, which is why it feels more pronounced in hand.
