We had 9 amazing guests on our second pod of the week last night recorded LIVE at the BOS Winter Classic @BTHSEastLancers. Just a few pictured below. Check out out the show here: https://t.co/HHtdMzgzh5
This has become a problem because safety and the best practice standards for heat acclimatization was not followed or considered when this proposal was drafted / voted on.
Now - only option left is to start season sooner to make sure we put safety back into this bylaw.
OK @IHSA_IL good on you for addressing the football acclimatization issue with the new playoff/season format (see email below).
I am disappointed that there is a tone that the SMAC didn’t inform those making the proposal about the issue to begin with. Not only did they know some reached out about how to make it happen w/ current acclimatization or if acclimatization could be changed. This was a problem of membership creating this problem, now they have to fix it.
HOWEVER… If it passes, Monday and Tuesday of that week should be “dead days”; schools will use contact days otherwise.
And more importantly, what happens if the adjustment does not pass? Then what?

Meanwhile student-athletes suffer the consequences of increased days without recovery. Slap in the face to the IHSA Sports Medicine Advisory Committee and the @ILAthTrainers who actually look out for student-athlete safety.
NATA is deeply troubled by a recent social media post that publicly demeaned an athletic trainer while she was providing medical care during competition. Athletic trainers are licensed health care professionals, and disrespect or harassment toward anyone delivering care is unacceptable.
Athletic trainers work in high-pressure environments where patient safety, clinical judgment and professional trust must come first. Nearly 60% of NATA’s membership is represented by women, who have fought for decades to earn their place in professional sports medicine. NATA stands firmly behind athletic trainers and all medical professionals who provide care with integrity, expertise, and compassion. We must, and can, do better.
@coachbdixon@IHSA_IL IHSA sports medicine advisory committee did not support the bylaw changes. Will now be asked how, when, why to make this work. Overall national standards still show a 10 to 14 day acclimatization as the gold standard.
