We must end plastic production as 5,000,000lbs of PLASTIC enter our oceans every 3.5 hours. Our Marine life is paying the price of our actions. We can only recover 5% of the plastic in our oceans. #plastic#plasticpollution#plasticfree#oceanplastic#ocean
In the chart below we see the global distribution of mismanaged plastic waste. The East Asia and Pacific region dominates global mismanaged plastic waste, accounting for 60 percent of the world total.

Scientists from the University of Exeter determined that microplastics can enter crabs’ bodies through their gills and ingestion. This is also the case for other marine creatures which increases the chance of the microplastics passing up the food chain to humans.
Plastic pollution also affects marine bacteria. Tests showed that “exposure to chemicals leaching from plastic pollution interfered with the growth, photosynthesis and oxygen production. These photosynthetic bacteria are critical as they produce 10% of the oxygen we breathe.
Humans are consuming an alarming amount of plastics that leak into the environment and eventually end up on our tables.
