The recent debate is a great start in recognising the shortfalls in cancer care in Wales, but it is essential the Senedd take further action to recruit and train enough Clinical Nurse Specialists to support people with secondary breast cancer now and in the future.
Clinical Nurse Specialists play a crucial role for #SecondaryBreastCancer patients who will be on lifelong treatment and often have complex emotional and support needs. A CNS will coordinate their care, providing information and support to manage their diagnosis and treatment.
Clinical Nurse Specialists are vital for those with #SecondaryBreastCancer, yet only 68% of patients in Wales were assigned one at diagnosis. It’s been fantastic to see much needed CNS support for those living with metastatic breast cancer debated in the Senedd yesterday.
Today’s statement from @Eluned_Morgan to the MBC petition was patronizing and showed no empathy. It was clear she hadn’t taken into account the evidence given to her. It left many of us in tears as we left the @SeneddWales
I'm supporting @TassiaHaines and @AshUmJo petition on metastatic breast cancer (MBC) and their call for more secondary breast cancer clinical nurse specialists and for the collection of data of those living and being treated for MBC in Wales.
Let's not leave MBC patients behind!
