I saw some people disagreeing and spouting nonsense, so let's set the record straight. Yes, I’ve read the novels and have been watching the anime since the very first episode, and my opinion remains the same: Yang is selfish, obsessed, and possessive regarding his unrequited love for Ah Duo, and this negatively impacts Jinshi. And believe it or not, there are people in the fandom who romanticize Yang and Ah Duo as a couple, even though she clearly never harbored romantic feelings for him; in novel 15, it becomes very clear just how much Ah Duo resents Yang. Furthermore, even though Yang was a victim of the system imposed by the imperial family, he deliberately chose Ah Duo as his sexual instructor because he knew full well that if she went to bed with him, she would never be able to leave the palace. In short: Yang raped Ah Duo repeatedly out of sheer selfishness and—second only to the Empress Dowager, his grandmother—bears the primary responsibility for Ah Duo losing her uterus. Had he not been so extremely selfish and possessive, Ah Duo could have realized her dream of becoming a merchant and wouldn't have lost her uterus. So yes, there is a segment of the #TheApothecaryDiaries fandom that romanticizes the two of them as a couple, completely disregarding the absurdity and tragedy of their story when examined more deeply.
