After two days of engaging in an Inter-generational and Inter-cultural dialogue on misinformation and hate speech, its causes and effects, we concluded the Great Lakes Forum for Peace and Social Cohesion that took place in Rwanda.
This conference convened about 125 Peace Fellows, mentors, religious and cultural representatives from Congo (Goma and Bukavu), Uganda and Rwanda, hosted by @visionjeunesse2 in Gisenyi.
Panel discussions on; What commitments can young Peace Fellows and cultures make towards contributing to the fight against hate speech and promote peace and social cohesion, among the peoples of the Great Lakes region
The highlight for the Ugandan Peace Fellows was the visit to the Gisenyi Mass Grave Site (Commune Rouge) after the dialogue, where they commemorated the Rwandan Genocide of 1994 that was a clear effect of misinformation and hate speech.

A while ago, I observed an unhinged convo on here where some folks (Kenyans btw) were claiming that if it wasn't for colonialism, local communities would have plundered East Africa's ecosystem to extinction by hunting, firewood, etc. I just scoffed and went about my day... (🧵)

There’s this incredible young woman named Dora Moono Nyambe, who dedicated her life to educating and fostering over 500 vulnerable children from abuse ( including sexual), child marriage and poverty.
She recently passed away and I’ve been thinking about her and her kids a lot💔
