I help make universities better. Chief Operating Officer for SUMS Consulting and SUPC, previously Director of Operations @UCLan, long-suffering fan of PNE.
@TomSandells@BBCLancsSport Can’t disagree with any of it. The club has been exceptionally patient for a period that goes well beyond the dreadful start to this season. There’s plenty of quality in the squad, even if not as much as we’d hoped for prior to deadline day. Tomorrow is last chance saloon.
@JBuckleyLabour @HouseofCommons Beautiful speech, Julia. A glittering parliamentary career lies in front of you and the purity of your motivation will continue to do the northern lasses (and the people of Shrewsbury) proud.
@RoddyFor@barneyronay Exactly right. Spain were a better team and deserved to win, but it’s entirely reasonable to feel gutted that England, replete with some of the very best players in world football, consistently played in a way that negated their biggest strengths. One good half all tournament.
Watching Spain after the England game was to be drenched in light after two hours of darkness.
Spain had pattern, purpose, pressing and incisive passing.
England can be miles better than they have been but can't just wallow in great escape euphoria. They need to change.

A profound faultline on the right at the moment between "we're world leading, the doomsayers must stop putting Britain down" and the constant stream of invective and contempt towards all of our institutions.
It’s difficult to read the take of several politicians on the business model for UK HE without being reminded of the phrase that “a little knowledge is a dangerous thing”.
But they do: collectively universities lose £1bn a year teaching home students and £5 bn a year on research which is not fully funded. The business model is a result of political decisions over a decade of frozen funding for UK students.
In migration figs or not, intl students bring real benefits:
• £42bn p.a, with typical constituency £58m better off.
• £12bn to priority levelling up areas.
• soft power from British values & lasting trade ties.
• fund research vital to UK “science superpower” ambitions.
@SamThomas26 He’s certainly an opinion splitter. Did a very solid job (with a talented team) at first but I endured some of the worst football I’ve ever seen under his tenure in the end. Felt like his tactical obsession sucked all life from the club.
@PNEFCPost Does he actually believe this himself? I’m so tired of hearing this nonsense. We had the most appalling run of results earlier in the season too. It didn’t feel “ever so good” watching it! The ‘brand’ of football is consistently as bad as anything I’ve witnessed at this level.
@PNEFCPost “I think the football, with what we try and do, is there”. I’d love to know what it is he thinks we try and do because whatever it is it’s abysmal to watch. We’re only behind Rotherham for chances created, same again for chances conceded. To be 10th is flukey to the extreme.
@Champchatpod24 It might seem hard to believe from the outside but his tenure has been soul destroying. We create no chances, concede lots of goals and have been bailed out only by an unsustainably clinical level of finishing. The brand of football is consistently awful & his comms are jarring.
@GHodgsonSport It was a clear penalty and Leeds deserved to win. We had a good 15 mins at the start where I briefly thought we might finally have changed our approach to games. After that we were passive & largely outclassed. Every PNE fan knew with 95% certainty what the end result would be!
