@Glokta2@mattyglesias ๐ Yeah man, it's getting to be a huge problem.
IMO driven largely by digital & social media prioritizing engagement over all else
@MissionLoco@mattyglesias Yeah they really do... it's like a parrot that just repeats the things you've told it in that very constrained variety
IMO it's doing massive harm to our society, this prioritization of engagement over all else. (But it doesn't have to be this way!)
It's interesting to me that while the future of warfare may seem super bleak (Automated AI drones attacking humans) it may prevent wars/conflicts in the first place by raising the bar for a casus belli.
Nobody seems to think a drone getting shot down deserves a "real" response even today, so in the future when they're commonplace wars might be a lot more "grey" instead of going hot
This was somewhat true before the 21st century, but not anymore.
1. Digital media/online platforms generate sorting and affective polarization from the bottom up (see the PNAS paper)
2. The local sorting & identity alignment process also operates at mass-level. Lilliana Mason has great reading on this if you're interested.
3. For empirical proof, in Switzerland, elite polarization massively increased while mass polarization stayed stable. Other comparative pattern studies (they're a little weak tbh) also don't show a transmission of affective polarization from elites to masses in democracies.
To be clear, both camps do affect each other and elites can definitely accelerate mass polarization (just like mass polarization that originates from the bottom up enables elite polarization in the first place), but to say it's "downstream" is reductionist & frankly wrong

Anyway, you guys DO realize that this Roadster is planning stage technology for low gravity moon and Mars vehicles right?
Because that's what all the research into shoving these thrusters into a small vehicle is really for.
Remember. Everything Elon does is about space.
this is the best breakdown Iโve seen of the dark arts behind Block Blast!, the most downloaded mobile game in the world last year
intentionally making players lose to optimize which ads they see, the sophistication behind such a โsimpleโ game is stunning.
This is a pretty stunning exchange to hear out loud (and I think he's 100% correct) - the US Europe relationship has truly crossed the rubicon so to speak
I cannot believe this is real footage and not a parody. This is incredible.
I mean straight of out Silicon Valley. I can just see the camera panning back to Richard and Jared or someone on the other side of the booth, stealing a glance at one another in quiet shock as they listen to this.
@flywithaopa Instead of leaving X with no reason, imagine polling the flying community:
"Hey guys, our engagement is way down here on X. That clearly means our content isn't resonating with you all, so what direction do you want to see us revamp towards?"
@flywithaopa So, adding this context to the initial statement of leaving would have made things 1000% better.
But also, if you're not doing well on X... try something new! There are tons of GA pilots on here that would appreciate more good aviation content & advocacy.
@flywithaopa I mean... who at AOPA decided this was a smart decision right now ESPECIALLY without giving some kind of reasoning??
Seems pretty out of touch with their membership base, cross posting is super easy and low effort.
@alamentarius Yeah people complaining about the "high" annual fee are being dumb
But having to structure your entire mentality around getting the most "credits" & tracking rewards points sure sounds like poverty to me....
& their lounges suck, always more full than the terminal outside
@ThePrimalDino I feel like this is engagement bait because who in the would want to launch cargo on SLS ๐ way too expensive for anything other than self-loading cargo.
Itโs pretty incredible how much has happened in South Florida just in 2026:
โข Jan 12: Vanderbilt moves forward with a ~$520M West Palm Beach campus. Stephen Ross commits $50M.
โข Jan 20: Wells Fargo moves its Wealth & Investment Management HQ to West Palm Beach. ~$16B annual revenue business.
โข Jan 27: D-Wave moves its corporate HQ from Palo Alto โ Boca Raton and builds a major R&D operation at BRiC.
โข Jan 27: FAU commits $20M to bring a D-Wave quantum computer to Boca and build out its quantum ecosystem.
โข Feb 17: Palantir moves its HQ from Denver โ South Florida.
โข Mar 25: KKR opens a permanent office in Miami.
โข June 2: Pine Crest announces a new West Palm Beach campus. Stephen Ross ultimately commits $100M to the project.
โข Sep 10: Andreessen Horowitz announces a West Palm Beach regional HQ for its $1.176B American Dynamism fund.
โข Sep 11: Stephen Ross / Related Ross buys BRiC in Boca: 124 acres + 1.7M sq. ft. of space.
โข Sep 30: Ken Griffin gives Carnegie Mellon $3 BILLION, the largest individual gift in higher-ed history. $2B goes toward building CMU Miami in Wynwood for 3,500+ students.
And this is on top of Citadel building its new Miami HQ and Stephen Ross planning $10B+ of investment across Palm Beach County.
Vanderbilt. Carnegie Mellon. Palantir. D-Wave. a16z. KKR. Wells Fargo. Citadel. FAU. Pine Crest.
Miami โ Fort Lauderdale โ Boca โ West Palm.
Feels like South Florida is hitting an inflection point, and weโre just getting started.
This reads much more naturally for X/LinkedIn while keeping the numbers that make the story impressive.
