What better day to let the cat out of the bag than International Cat Day? This is my new translation of I AM A CAT by Natsume Sลseki for Vintage Classics, with a special translator's note and introduction. Comes out September 4th. Available to pre-order meow ๐ผ๐ป๐
@nasubijutsu Nick! Congratulations! I never managed to finish one of the existing translations so I'm looking forward to yours. The cover is gorgeous! ๐ป
On X, Masaki Nobushiro posts a recurring (and useful) drawing about how people wrongly think a 1m tsunami is a cresting wave when it's actually a wall of water filled with dangerous and deadly debris that's strong enough to sweep up a car.
Anyone's here been to past Korea Open (badminton)? Do you mind sharing photos of the event site during the tournament? I.e., the booth, posters, camaraderie etc.
@theone_xyz can help getting this out? Thanks in advance!
๐ฅ A finish for the history books! ๐คฉ

I love prose written by poets and now I can say I adore original works written by translators! It is not just the way she "manipulates" the language but also the plot and the gist of the story. Mind-bending.
With that said - I like Kokoro for the harsh life lessons (or wisdom) it imparts. Imagine rejecting the world to as a way to absolve your unproven guilt. What a burden to carry and I do wish Sensei reached out sooner instead of hokding everything in himself.
Reading Kalbu (the Malay translation of Kokoro) by Natsume Soseki is a challenge in patience and focus. It is essentially a bildungsroman, similar to Sanshiro and Botchan, two Soseki's works that I enjoyed so much. Yet, while the other two are faster-paced, plot wise, Kalbu...
...progresses gradually with long-winding sentences that seem to avoid the heart of the story. In a way, Kalbu is more similar to I Am a Cat, which I put on an indefinite break halfway into it. Yet, I couldn't help feeling Sensei is the matured, more tragic version of Cat's Owner

This is the last tournament for the daddies before they retire.

Currently reading Tikus. A very very much easier entry into WNA's world. An alternative, futuristic "Malaysia" should Japan did not lose the WW2 and we remained colonized.
