🇮🇹 Brutal attack on Italian ticket inspector leaves her permanently disabled. The migrant who attacked escaped punishment.
In 2011, 26-year-old Luana Zaratti was doing her routine job as a ticket inspector in Rome when an Egyptian migrant suddenly headbutted her violently in the face, after she asked him for his bus ticket.
The blow caused severe head trauma and a fractured nasal septum. Doctors initially believed she was brain-dead and asked her family for permission to harvest her organs.
Luana survived, but with permanent neurological damage and serious physical disabilities. She needed years of intensive rehabilitation and was declared permanently unfit for work.
She now survives on a minimal state disability pension while facing high ongoing medical costs.
The attacker, an Egyptian migrant, was sentenced to just 14 months in prison, but fled Italy shortly after the verdict and never served a day.
Luana has since become a public advocate for transit workers and victims of violence against women, keeping her story alive in the fight for justice and better protection.
