🔍 New to our register (No. 1616): an alcove in the south wall of a medieval barn in Hoverington, Nottinghamshire.
Thanks to the Field Detectives for sharing their find — and to Roger Whitehead for the artist’s impression!

A smoot is a hole left in a drystone wall for rabbits or other small animals to get through. I see many on my walks but this one (from Ambleside) has to be the most elaborate. A cathedral among smoots!

🐝 Ancient Egyptian Beekeeping 🍯
The earliest known depictions of beekeepers date back to the Old Kingdom of Ancient Egypt. At Niuserre’s sun temple, carvings show beekeepers blowing smoke into hives while carefully removing honeycombs. The extracted honey was strained and stored in sealed earthen jars, preserving it for years—some even lasting millennia.
We are grateful to Eric Goris (Vlaams Bijeninstituut) and our vice Chairman Prof. Dirk de Graaf for organising the return of this fabulous collection of bee related printing blocks. More news coming soon... #BeeHistory#Bees#beekeeping
