Does anyone else worry, when you see a family and only one person is wearing a mask, that the mask wearer has tested positive but the whole family is going out anyway?
Just learned one of my evening staff members quietly bought 2 pairs of gloves for 2 girls that ride their bikes to the library after school. They didn't have any and she wanted to help keep them warm. โค
@EdTechBham That's a good idea! I'm just worried they'll day yes they want the programs and then no one will dhow up. That's what happened with the STEAM one.
I need some YS Librarian advice! Our homeschool families keep asking for more programs, but our weekly STEAM club only gets the same 2-3 families a week. Does this mean we aren't meeting their needs or that we're going to waste our time planning more?
I had someone outside of my department cover storytime today while I was out and they started half an hour early, finishing up as most people showed up for the actual time. So now I have an angry email from a parent and a lot if disappointed kids.
@LPerenic@nikarella While in this case it was definitely not malicious it is no less frustrating to me. This person is a former children's librarian and should have known better!
@wb8979 Yes, in fact I just saw a job posting. The only problem is it would be a long commute and the pay would be about the same or a little lower. But I am getting pretty fed up here!
I've had several instances this month that have made me realize other library staff don't *really* want to support me and I always feel like I'm being punished when I take time off.
I swear, I am trying to delegate and lighten my load but it's really hard to want to keep doing it when people don't take what we do in the children's area seriously. No wonder I'm heading directly towards burnout.
Like I'm not canceling my vacation just because adult services librarians hate covering the children's desk. I'm sorry it's not their favorite but is it really asking so much for a little support for a very overworked children's manager?
I'm not even back from vacation yet and can already tell I will be returning to a giant mess. I know multiple people are mad at me for taking time off because one of my staff suddenly called off right before I went out of town.
An unvaccinated family member just died of Covid today. A healthy man in his 60s who spent weeks slowly deteriorating on a ventilator until his body gave out. And it could have been prevented. I'm so heartbroken and angry.
There is an unmasked patron here who I know is anti-vaxx coughing all over everything in our children's department. It sounds like a deep, awful chest cough. No, I can't do anything about it but wear my mask. ๐ท
