KARYLLE LANDS MRS. BUCKET ROLE
We’re calling it: #Karylle is set to play Mrs. Bucket in the Philippine run of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” this July—and the teaser already has fans buzzing.
The full reveal drops on April 13.
A glimpse of the actress’ warm smile hints at the role she’s stepping into: Charlie’s kind and devoted mother in the beloved story by Roald Dahl. Mrs. Bucket may live in poverty, but she remains patient, loving, and quietly resilient—the emotional anchor of the Bucket family.
It’s a role that fits Karylle’s strengths as a performer. She has earned respect in theater not by dabbling in it for prestige, but by doing the work where it matters—taking on demanding roles, collaborating with top-tier companies, and consistently earning nominations and wins from major award-giving bodies.
A standout moment in her stage career came with “Carousel,” where she earned multiple nominations from the Gawad Buhay Awards and Aliw Awards. She also portrayed Sita in “Rama, Hari” twice—first in 2012 and again in 2023—while her turn as Audrey in “Little Shop of Horrors” earned her a Best Lead Actress in a Musical trophy at the Aliw Awards.
Her theater credits also include “West Side Story,” “The Sound of Music,” and concert productions like “Contra Mundum: Ang All-Star Concert ng Ang Larawan”—a body of work that proves she’s not just stepping into Mrs. Bucket’s shoes; she’s more than ready for them.
